|My team outside of the ESPN complex|
(where we played most of our games)
For everyone that has been keeping up with my blog, I enjoyed playing at the President's Lacrosse Cup in Orlando, Florida last weekend. I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to play with other girls from Michigan that are amazing both on and off the field.
As for my 20 time project, I have been spending a little bit of time every day learning a little bit more about the rules of wheelchair basketball. I learned that there is a point system for who can be on the court for each team. Each player is ranked and given a number of points based on how capable they are of controlling their body. For example, a person with a muscle disease that limits how well they can move their arms, they would be given a different number of points than a person with two fully functional arms. This rule makes sense and it allows everyone with a disability to play with close to the same chance of winning. This also allows the players to focus more on their basketball skills instead of just their disabilities.
I am currently working on writing a letter to the Detroit Diehards. I will let you know how it goes next week!
